summary

BuildPro Contractors is seeking an Estimator responsible for overseeing all preconstruction cost control functions for construction projects. This includes preparing complete estimates, conducting cost analyses and comparisons, assisting with feasibility studies, and maintaining historical cost reports. The Estimator will handle multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously and may take a lead role in preconstruction efforts. Reporting to the Estimator, this role may also involve supervising estimators on assigned projects.

  • Review all estimates for accuracy, detail, and expectations.
  • Contact local building trades, subcontractors, suppliers, and government offices to verify market conditions, trade practices, and costs.
  • Analyze manpower and equipment requirements for self-perform operations.
  • Understand the impact of general conditions and contract language; review with project teams.
  • Coordinate building systems and schedules with Operations to plan and budget for safety on each project.
  • Utilize conceptual estimating skills to identify required items for complete systems, even if not explicitly outlined in construction documents.
  • Make timely decisions, assess risk levels, and determine when to involve upper management.
  • Understand client needs and manage the estimating process efficiently to ensure timely completion.
  • Consider local logistics, subcontractor and supplier markets, and the application of BIM, LEED, and Lean principles.
  • Prioritize safety and communicate safety requirements to the team.

Education:

  • High school diploma required; a degree in a construction-related field is strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years of estimating experience. Experience with formal presentations and supervising staff is beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong conceptual estimating skills and ability to identify missing items in construction documents.
  • Ability to mentally schedule and construct a building from drawings.
  • Proficiency in organizing, prioritizing projects, and managing deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills to compare and assess various systems and cost impacts.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to interact professionally with clients, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams.

Technology:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar quantity takeoff software is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn job-specific software upon hire.
